The pictures of the African Safari of the
Goodwin family were sent by Joan Goodwin. July 1-8, 1999 Hope and Joe Goodwin took
three of their daughters Joan, Gretchen and Juliana, and two of their granddaughters
Jennifer and Angie on a Safari through Zimbabwe and Botswana. |

This a picture of Angie and Jennifer with the Zambezi river and Steam of the falls behind
them. The bridge connects Zimbabwe with Zambia. This is also where they have the highest
bungi jump in the world. People tie a rope around their feet and jump off the bridge
some 400 feet down to where they are face to face with the Zambezi Rapids. |

An angry male lion charging the safari. The angry lion
was focused on Joe who was standing up in a totally unprotected open vehicle video taping
while Hope and Juliana were totally exposed sitting beside him. The date was July 3. |

These greater kudu were beautiful and a species we had never
since before in Africa so we were very excited about seeing a number of kudu on this
safari.

This elephant made three mock charges at our group while we
were watching
the 75 elephants at the waterhole in Hwange Park in Zimbabwe.

Although we have much better elephant shots, seeing this group
of 41 elephants running to the water hole where we were parked was a thrill. Most were
mothers with babies and we were between them and the water on
which they were focused so we did not know how they would react. In fact, they ran around
us, drank, and went charging back into the bush. We watched a total of 75 elephants at the
water hole that evening. It was
probably my favorite time. Leaving the park we were fortunate to see three rhinos but it
was getting dark and the still shot is not good enough for the web.
Unfortunately, Joe did not take any movies of the mother elephant who chased us that last
safari. My photo is dark with all the dust the vehicle was throwing up as well as her dust
during the pursuit. But it was very
memorable for our whole family who happened to all be together on that game drive. It was
great.Angie and Jennifer watching the elephants drink. |

This newborn baby elephant was so cute. It was the smallest
elephant out of the estimated 500 elephants that we saw during the safari. They were
running to the water hole. The unusual thing about this picture is that the mother
elephants usually keep between humans and their calves. Seems this baby was thirsty and
unaware of any threat. |

Goodwins report that it is truly one of the best (and they've seen a lot!). |
