2001 World Trade Center

The photos below are a little memorial to the World Trade Center from Alice Gander.
wtc_1986.jpg (65390 bytes) February 1986 My first visit to New York City was in February 1986.  I went to see my best friend from college, Kim Williams.  Among our many excursions that weekend, we naturally went on top of the World Trade Center.  It was gray, cloudy and windy but it was still breathtaking.  Another tourist offered to take this picture of the two of us.  The Empire State Building is sticking up between us.  We also went in that wonderful building on that weekend
wtc0.jpg (91828 bytes) June 1988 In June 1988, Joel and I were newlyweds and planning to move to France later in the year.  We took a long weekend and went to New York City.  We had a wonderful time at all the museums and, of course, visited the World Trade Center.  This photograph shows the Brooklyn Bridge.

wtc9.jpg (75217 bytes) June 1988 Manhattan
wtc10.jpg (74723 bytes) June 1988 Washington Park, New York City.
wtc11.jpg (56617 bytes) June 1988 The only photograph I have taken during two trips to New York City that shows the World Trade Center towers in the background.  This is Joel Dobson at a fountain in Washington Park.
wtc12.jpg (129514 bytes) June 1988 This photo has been digitally altered to erase the World Trade Center towers.
wtc11_12.jpg (277414 bytes) June 1988 With/without.  This composite shows the original photo from Washington Park with the two towers of the World Trade Center in the background, and the digitally altered photograph with the World Trade Center erased.  In the first photo, you know you are in New York City.  In the second photo, it is much harder to get a feel for the place.
