Will Book 14, Page 291 Washington County Courthouse, Abingdon, Virginia

Know all Men by these presents that we Peter J. Branch, William King Hirskell, Peter E. B. C. Henritze & John A. Campbell of Washington County, are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwealth of Virginia in the sum of ten thousand dollars to which payment well and truly to be made to the said Commonwealth, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, or administrators, jointly & severally firmly by these presents. Witness our hands & seals this 1st day of June 1858. The Condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas the above bound P. J. Branch was on the 27th day of May 1858 Elected Clerk of the Circuit Court of Washington County for the term of six years from the first day of July 1858. Now if the said Peter J. Branch shall well and truly and faithfully do perform, execute and discharge all the duties of his said office of Clerk during the term of his Continuance therein, then the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain for full force.

Washington County to wit:

I Samuel V. Fulkerson, Judge of the Circuit Court of Washington County do hereby certify, that Peter J. Branch, Wm. King Hirskell, Peter E. B. C. Henritze and John A. Campbell parties to the within bond bearing date on the first day of June 1858 pursonally appeared before me in open court on this day & severally acknowledged the said bond to be this act and deed, Given under my hand this 19th day of June 1858.

In the Clerk's Office of the County Court of Washington the 13th day of July 1858. The foregoing bond was delivered to the Clerk of said County on the day above mentioned and admitted to Record.

Notes: There is no known link so far between Peter J. Branch and Nelson T. Branch. However, Peter Branch appeared to be the only other Branch in Abingdon during this period and it is possible a link will yet appear.
