Nelson Branch buys 22 ½ acres from Joseph Newby
This Deed made this the 15th day of February in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty nine between Joseph Newby and Martha
his wife of the one part and Nelson T. Branch of the other part.
Witnesseth, that Joseph Newby and Martha his wife in consideration of the
sum of three hundred and fifteen dollars paid to them in hand the receipt
whereof is hereby acknowledged have sold to the said Nelson T. Branch and by
these presents do grant bargain sell and convey a certain track or parcel of
land lying and being in the County of Pulaski and State of Virginia on the
waters of the Fall branch adjoining the said Nelson T. Branch and containing by
recent Survey twenty two and a half acres of land bounded as follows: beginning
at an Ironwood bush on the South Side of the a Mill pond thence S46 ½ W 18
poles to a large White Oak thence S32 W33 poles to a White oak and chestnut
bushes on James Meredith line, thence S45 E70 poles to two black oak bushes,
thence N 46 E 48 ½ poles to three Chestnut oak bushes, thence N43 ½ W 76 poles
to the beginning and the said Joseph Newby and Martha his wife do hereby convey
the above described land with a general warranty. Witness the following
signatures and seals

Pulaski Co Va to wit:
I Tho G Shelor a Justice of the peace for the County & State aforesaid do certify that Joseph Newby whose name is assigned to the within writing bearing date on the 15th day of February 1859 has acknowledged the same before me in my County aforesaid.
Given under my hand this 15th day of Feb 1859.

Pulaski Co Va to wit:
We Thomas G. Shelor and Benjamine Redpath Justices of the peace for the County & State aforesaid, do certify that Martha Newby wife of Joseph Newby whose name is signed to the within writing bearing date, on the 15th day of Feb 1859, personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid & being examined by us privily and apart from her husband, and having the writing aforesaid fully explained to her she the said Martha Newby acknowledged the said writing to be her act and declared that she had willingly executed the same & does not wish to retract it. Given under our hands this 15th day of Feb. 1859l

Virginia: At a Court held for the County of Pulaski the 10th day of March 1859.
This Deed from Joseph Newby to Nelson T. Granch dated the 15th day of February 1859 was presented in Court and with the certificates of acknowledgement and privey examination annexed ordered to be recorded.

[This purchases completed the full 66-acre farm being 8 ¼ acres first, then 35 acres and now 22 ½ acres. Nelson Branch would own this farm until taken from him in bankruptcy proceedings in 1876.]
