John Phelps sells a parcel to daughter Martha W. Martin
This deed made this 29 day of Nov, 1884. Witnesseth, that for the consideration of $70.00, I John Phelps of the county of Washington, Sate of Virginia hereby sell and convey unto Martha W. Martin of Washington County state of Virginia, all the following described real estate situated in little Moccasin Gap, Washington County State of Virginia. Beginning as follows at a bunch of buckeye sprouts at the bank of the creek running a north westerly course up a small Branch following the meanderings of the stream to James Phelps line thence with said line to the road thence to the creek (Reserving, supposed to be three fourths, ¾ of an acre, be it the same more or less, being the ground occupied for a church) and following said creek, crossing the Russell road, following the meanderings of said creek to the beginning, to have and to hold with all of its appurtenances and will hereby warrant and defend generally, the above described land, given under my hand this 29 day of Nov, 1884,

Washington County, to wit:
I Thos. R. Hines a Justice for the County aforesaid do certify that John Phelps sen whose name is signed to the writing hereto annexed bearing date Nov.29th 1884, has this day acknowledged the same to be his act, before me a Justice for the County aforesaid. Given under my hand this 29 day Nov. 1884.

Virginia: In the Clerk’s office of the County Court of Washington County the 24th day of August 1885. The foregoing Deed was delivered to the Clerk of the County Court aforesaid on the day above mentioned and admitted to record.
