Dublin Va April 23rd 1908
To whome it may consern that is Pension Authorities at Richmond Va.
I hereby certify that Jno Meredith is well known to me. I have red the Statements made in his certificate and know
that he did work in the war mins for the Confederate Government as he says.
I all know that when ear there was a threat a invasion the detailed men
were ordered out ti meet the enemy. I
saw him and many others going to Dublin to report for duty in the field and were
sent to various places. These men
carried about the same arms that the Soldiers regular army carried they are
considered as part of the army.
Now about the diging Iron oar the Confederate Government had the Iron mines
& filtus learned ther [hard to say what he really wrote] property. I believe
belonged to one Capt. D. B. Bill. There
were men to cut wood to make charcoal and men to burn the wood into coal and men
to draw and haul coal. All of the
men so employed were the men that he speaks of being ordered out from time to
time. I know this thing to be fact
for thes mins were in three miles of my home.
Any farther information that I can give you I will gladly do so.
Mr Meredith is a worthy citizen of my neighborhood and I hope he will
have no farthe trouble in giting a Pension.
I know he has been a hard working man, but he is about out of it now
being 73 years old.
I am yours &c.
A. F. Akers, J.P.
